Quarentines!

A Pen Pal Community

A Community of Makers

The Quarentines Project was established right after self-quarantine was placed upon the DMV area, and pen-palling became a hot topic among people in isolation.

Soon enough, writing letters became big again. With the incentive of gaining a letter sparking motivation to do nothing, it's no wonder that lettering has suddenly become such a hobby among people under self-isolation.

Problem is: It can be hard to find someone to write to.

With this, the concept behind the Quarentines Project was made. Quarentines (rhyming with "Valentines") is an interactive pen-pal project aimed at bringing people together during a time of loneliness through letter writing, design, and receiving. For older students (High school and over), participation is largely based on improving mental health during self isolation and finding the motivation to do something for your community. For younger kids in elementary school, the Quarentines Project is based on improving literacy and writing skills, and it's tangent website can be found here.

"During the times of the coronavirus, self-isolation has been a lonely time for a lot of people, to say the least. It's been difficult to maintain social contact, and thus hard on everyone's mental health. Writing letters is a great way to maintain physically distant from one another while being socially close, and can go very far in terms of strengthening emotional wellbeing and fostering creativity. Life is bearable when you have someone to write, and someone who writes you back. Even if it's just one person.
